As They Sleep turned heads with their debut 'Blacken the Sun' due to its wall shaking technical death metal, but for the band's newest release, 'Dynasty', the Michigan-based act wasn't content with just fine-tuning and adding more volume; they went for a heavy concept -- and you can take a listen for yourself over at AOL's Listening Party.

"Brutality aside, 'Dynasty' focuses mainly on the rise and fall of various kingdoms, empires and dynasties throughout history, both factual and mythological," frontman Aaron Bridgewater wrote of the album's concept in a blog update. "It ties in the reasons for collapse with power and battle-lust, and intertwines it all with modern problems and politics that we are dealing with today. It pretty much outlines popular stories in history regarding false gods, struggle, famine, dictatorship, and why these things didn't work."

The album, which came out on Monday, begins with a look at hell on the track 'Oracle of the Dead,' and then takes on the wielding powers of Egypt and the Mayans before concluding on the idea of heaven.

As They Sleep will be hitting the road with Living Sacrifice on the 'A Very Metal Christmas Tour' beginning November 30.
