Upstate New York's Addicted to Pain recently released their self-titled debut EP digitally via Megaforce. The band isn't interested in genres, categories or classifications. They just want it to be heavy all the time.

"It's like metal with a little punk and hardcore influence," bassist Bob Horvath told Noisecreep. "It's a lot of different stuff, so it's hard to explain. As long as it's heavy, heavy s---, then I love it. Fast, slow, whatever -- it's heavy groove that you feel in your gut. That's what we like to accomplish instead of going off into solos. It gets lost that way."

There is a bit of a hardcore influence on 'Addicted to Pain,' which could come from the band's geographic origins and proximity to the New York hardcore scene. "There is an allegiance with hardcore, and Albany breeds hardcore music," Horvath explained. "We're close to the city, by about two hours -- and you have all the Brooklyn guys -- and one of the first places they come is Albany. As kids, we grew up in hardcore. Not saying metal wasn't there; it was, but hardcore really was big."

The city's working class vibe as the capitol of New York state also factors into Addicted to Pain's sound. "It's hard to explain what this hellhole is like," Horvath said with a laugh. "The music scene was good with hardcore and bands got a good start, but it fizzled because clubs closed. So we have had to travel to see shows and play."

That hasn't stopped Addicted to Pain from moving forward. They're also working on their full-length album, with ideas written and on tape. "We will be sifting through it after the tour," Horvath said.

The 'Addicted to Pain' EP is available for purchase through iTunes.
