Arch Enemy’s New Song Invites You to Your ‘First Day in Hell’

We're just one day away from the release of Arch Enemy's 10th studio album, Will to Power. It's the second with frontwoman Alissa White-Gluz and first with former Nevermore axeman Jeff Loomis as the band continues to evolve their hyper-melodic, anthemic sound. While fans anxiously await the full record, whet your appetite with the freshly released "First Day in Hell."

A clean-toned, doom-laden Middle-Eastern melody opens up the song, building tension with well-timed cymbal strikes before distorted guitar chugs alternate with melodic leads. "First Day in Hell" takes more of a rhythm-first approach over the verse, riding a fierce gallop that provides the foundation for White-Gluz's choppy death growls. With short bursts of more melody from Loomis and mainman Michael Amott, the track volleys between lunging riffs and Arch Enemy's prototypical sound with a winding arrangement.

"First Day in Hell" is the third song to be released off Will to Power. Arch Enemy had previously issued the self-empowering "The World Is Yours" and the mid-tempo fist-banger "The Eagle Flies Alone," so fans should be able to start piecing together a fair idea of what to expect from the new album.

Arch Enemy will return to North America in late October, embarking on a co-headlining tour with Trivium, who will be promoting their new album The Sin and the Sentence. Support will come from While She Sleeps and Fit for an Autopsy and a full list of dates can be seen at this location.
