Death-grind stalwarts Misery Index have just debuted the brand new song "The Eaters and The Eaten," the first single off the forthcoming album Complete Control.

The new record, due May 13, is the successor to 2019's standout effort, Rituals of Power, and the first on Misery Index's new label home, Century Media. Produced by Fit For An Autopsy's Will Putney and masted by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios, Complete Control is shaping up to be another delightfully violent affair, evidenced by the "The Eaters and The Eaten," which bears Misery Index's signature blend of chunky death metal grooves and sinister melodies.

"We are super stoked to present our new album Complete Control — a pandemic-spawned nine-track opus of vitriolic death metal which draws heavily on our enduring brutal hardcore and grindcore influences," began bassist/vocalist Jason Netherton when assessing the new record, which will be the band's seventh overall.

"We tracked the album in September and October of 2021, and it was subsequently mixed by Will Putney prior to being mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios. The cover features the visceral, uncanny work of visual artist Matt Lombard, which to us hammers home the contradictory forces of control and chaos which define our modern age," he continued.

"The album's central lyrical themes focus on these competing forces of control and chaos; they interrogate ‘power’ as something that is not always wielded with brute force in the modern age (through violence), but more so as a control-society where it manifests on a self-governing, individual level," Netherton added before expressing excitement over Misery Index's upcoming tour with Origin and Wolf King. "Until then, see you all soon and keep hammering the nails!"

Misery Index, "The Eaters and the Eaten" Lyrics

Ancient ways ensnared in the monetary grip
Sons and daughters slaved by the wage and the whip
Our way of life crushed, as our lives drown in work
Is this what we're to think that a human life is worth?

Burned out fields and broken, black factories
Echoing the names of the dead who came before me
Who yearns to breathe this acrid, acid air?
Who among us bleeds for a better life beyond despair?

Eaters and eaten, deathwork, so nauseating
Master and servant, deathwork immiserating

The eaters and the eaten, eaten alive
Hours spent in the shadow of the mill
Days turn to weeks as our lifeblood spills

Burned out fields and broken, black factories
Echoing the names of the dead who came before me

Eaters and eaten, deathwork, so nauseating
Master and servant, deathwork immiserating

From the rare earth mine, to the longshore line
Survival is a burden, that we can not relent
The eaters and the eaten, eaten alive
Hours spent in the shadow of the mill
Days turn to weeks as our lifeblood spills

Falling through the cracks, we bring down the anvil of dissent
From ash-caked eyes, thousand-mile stares
Gaze upon a world where this system is extinct and nevermore
