Calling all drum nerds. Mike Portnoy, late of Dream Theater and Avenged Sevenfold, the latter in a temporary sense, and now with the Winery Dogs, has released 'The Drumming Dog' DVD. No, it's not a canine or a pooch hitting the skins and twirling sticks. It's drum-cam footage of the famed rhythm keeper himself, taken from the recording sessions for his new band's self-titled debut.

Your audio options are varied -- you can get a full band mix, isolated drums and MP vox and a headphone mix. So you can pick your audio poison. It's clearly meant to be instructional for those who are interested in technique and style. The DVD is available for purchase here.

The Winery Dogs are gearing up for the release of their Loud & Proud debut on July 23. Featuring Billy Sheehan and Richie Kotzen, the power trio does one thing and that's rock!

"In all of my years in this business, I've always been part of either a progressive band or a metal band," said Portnoy. "This is the first time I've been in an all-original band that's just a rock band in the vein of Led Zeppelin or Van Halen."
