Endwell Talk About Thier Near Breakup on ‘Dark Waves’ — Song Premiere
When we read a recent press release where Endwell cited artists like Elliot Smith and the Beatles as their prime influences for their upcoming album, Noisecreep wasn't sure what to make of it. After all, the Queens, NY band's prior work was informed by the rugged hardcore of bands like Cro-Mags and Hatebreed. Could Endwell have been preparing us for their acoustic pop phase?
Our fears were put to rest when we got our hands on 'Punishment,' Endwell's new album. While the group did open their songwriting up with a new array of guitar textures and vocal approaches, the record still hits you over the head with metallic intensity. There's even a European death metal twinge in some of the album's heavier tracks. Noisecreep is thrilled to bring you the exclusive premiere of 'Dark Waves,' one off the best cuts off of 'Punishment.'

Endwell vocalist Sean Murphy gave Noisecreep the story behind 'Dark Waves':
"Musically speaking, a good portion of the song came from a tune we were working on about 4 years ago that we just never properly finished or recorded. Once Danny (Pupplo, lead guitarist) came up with the groove, we knew we had to piece these things together. It's definitely one of our heaviest songs as well as one of our most diverse. It shifts into a few different moods and has a lot more texture than our previous work.
Lyrically, the song is a dead on reflection of what I was going through at the time, no metaphors, just straight forward and honest. The band was on thin ice, we were all burnt out and completely maladjusted from years of grinding it out on the road. So the song has a pretty serious tone to it and a general sense of defeat. Also, Mean Pete (of Remembering Never, Bishop, Ether) got down with some guest vocals which made it that much more awesome."
'Punishment' will be released on April 26th via Mediaskare Records.
