Watch Slayer + Anthrax Members Jam Bryan Adams’ ‘Summer of ’69’ at Soundcheck
We just checked and can confirm that it's still the summer of 2016, but for members of Slayer and Anthrax it was like the "Summer of '69" in Canada! The two bands, along with Death Angel, just launched their tour together on Sept. 9 and the fun has already started with soundcheck jams like the Bryan Adams cover.
Jon Donais, the newest axeman in Anthrax, posted a video on his Instagram page of the two bands joining forces with Slayer / Exodus guitarist Gary Holt and Anthrax frontman Joey Belladonna at the forefront of the video. The tune gets a bit of a metallic makeover as they paid tribute to the Canadian legend. Watch a clip of the performance below.
Slayer made headlines back in March earlier this year when footage surfaced of the band performing the famous Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Free Bird," roping in Testament's Alex Skolnick on second guitar during the soundcheck. Holt and Skolnick tore off screaming solos, hardly ever taking the time to even glance down at their guitars.
When speaking with Full Metal Jackie, Holt recalled the jam, commenting, "I’m a classic rock guy. That was my upbringing before I ever evolved into heavy metal. I’m the youngest out of six kids and five of us are boys. I grew up listening to what my brothers were listening to, which included stuff like Skynyrd. Tom was the one who actually got that started and then we pulled out Skolnick into it. That was some of the most fun I’ve ever had on the stage in my life, was playing 'Free Bird' at soundcheck."
Slayer's run with Anthrax and Death Angel will extend through Oct. 27 and a list of remaining stops can be found at our 2016 Guide to Rock + Metal Tours.
