Refused, ‘The Shape of Punk to Come’ — Deluxe Edition

Refused's 'The Shape of Punk to Come' is largely considered a benchmark in the post-hardcore canon. The band eventually imploded, with ex-members going on to form the (International) Noise Conspiracy. Suffice it to say, nothing ever compared to 'The Shape of Punk to Come,' a record that Far singer Jonah Matranga, who had heard the music before its release, told me was going to change the musical landscape. He was right. Even a luminary like Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello gave props to Refused, referring to 'New Noise' as "one of the great rock jams of all time."

Epitaph plans to re-introduce this classic into the marketplace with 'The Shape of Punk to Come' deluxe edition, which will hit shelves on June 8. Hopefully, a new generation of metal and hardcore fans will be exposed to this essential album.

The deluxe version will offer quite the Refused fix: It's three discs, among them the full-length album, a previously unreleased live album recorded at the Umeå Open festival in their hometown Umeå, Sweden on April 3, 1998, and the 'Refused Are F---ing Dead' documentary on DVD, which collects interviews, backstage footage and live performances that document the band's meteoric rise and fall.
