You can always count on Mastodon for interesting videos and they've once again come through with their latest clip for "Asleep in the Deep." The unique video is officially premiering on Adult Swim at 4AM on Saturday morning, but it has also been posted on YouTube for your viewing pleasure now. Check it out above.

For the clip, the band teamed up with Skinner, the artist who created their psychedelic Once More 'Round the Sun album art. Add in direction from Video Rahim and special FX guru Shane Morton, and as expected, the end result is a truly trippy video.

In the clip, a house cat decides to wander off after his owner nods off the sleep, and upon entering a whole in the wall on the street, this feline goes on an adventure through a catacomb-like area that is like something out of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. There's a giant bullfrog, a three-headed rat king, cat gnomes, cheese slaves and a warrior squirrel, and by the end our feline hero is just trying to get out alive.

Skinner says about the clip, "This concept was birthed out of my curiosity for what a cat really does at night while we are asleep. Where do they go? Cats have a very mysterious myth to them and I thought it would be cool to explore that, as little nocturnal heroes. I decided to put a sort of Joseph Campbell hero myth spin on it and add some Jodorowsky psychedelia as well. I'm more than excited about the way it came out! I love it."

Mastodon are also really proud of the clip and have created specialty merchandise for the video. The band's webstore has an exclusive bundle that includes an "Asleep in the Deep" t-shirt, along with an old school movie-style poster. Bundles will begin shipping on July 1. Check here to order.

The band is spending their summer touring Europe and they've also booked some South American dates in September. See their full itinerary here.
