Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins Denies Child Sex Offense Charges, Issues Statement
There's a new update in the strange and disturbing case of Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins. The singer, who has been in custody in his native Wales since December of last year when he was arrested for allegedly committing sex crimes against children, pleaded not guilty to a total of 24 charges, including two charges of raping a baby.
According to the BBC, Watkins, 35, appeared with two other unnamed women at Cardiff Crown Court via video link this morning (June 3). The singer denied the charges of conspiracy to rape a young child, as well as an assortment of other offenses related to sexual assault that date back to 2007. He also denied a charge of possessing extreme animal pornography. The women accused have also denied the charges. Another hearing is expected to take place this coming Thursday (June 6).
The singer issued a statement post-hearing, professing his innocence and vowing to clear his name.
"I want to thank my family, friends and all the fans for the continued support throughout this whole ordeal," Watkins said. "Your support gives my strength. I deny all the allegations made against me and I will continue to fight to clear my name."
