You know him as the prolific frontman of Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, but like most musicians, Maynard James Keenan was in other projects prior to becoming successful. One of his former bandmates from a group called TexA.N.S. has shared songs they recorded together in the late 1980s, and you can listen below.

Mike Meengs was the keyboardist in TexA.N.S., which stands for Tex and the Anti Nazi Squad. Meengs shared a photo of himself with Keenan in the '80s with some background context on Facebook, and also shared some recordings the band did. Keenan was actually the bassist for the band as well as one of the vocalists.

"Maynard lived down the street from me for a while, and we did a few small projects together in the late '80s," Meengs wrote in one of the posts. "We started the TexANS together (with him on bass), did a couple coffee house gigs together, and recorded the first song that he wrote lyrics and sang on...He's one of my only friends that went on to super-stardom, and I'm super proud of his achievements!"

According to Meengs, "Who Leads You" is the first song Keenan wrote lyrics for. See the full post and listen to the song, in addition to "Tweeked & In God We Trust" below. Keenan is currently on the road with Tool in support of their latest album Fear Inoculum. Get tickets here.
