There's a phrase that the devil is in the details. For this week's photo post, "Lava," Slipknot percussionist and adventurous photographer, Shawn "Clown" Crahan, zooms in on an alluring lady in red for an alternate perspective of life. By focusing on her eye as the center point, he creates an image that's far more mysterious and magical than it would have been had he framed her full head, let alone her entire body.

Although the picture is clearly of a young woman's face, the presentation is almost abstract. The bridge of her nose looks squashed or flattened into a speedbump, and there appear to be enigmatic tendrils either poking into or firing out from the top left corner of the eye. Then there's the fiery red hair and sparkles that could be either transforming or consuming her flesh. Check out the pic, then read what Clown had in mind.

"I'm obsessed with going out and creating concepts and shooting people that want to pose, and once in a while I'm lucky enough to get with some really good people that think of art the way I do and want to partake in it the way I want to. This photo wasn't created until we took the time to do it. She decided to really go all out with makeup and do some really fun stuff. If she wasn't willing to do that, there would have been no picture.

"This one's real important to me because I was shooting the whole subject, but on this particular image I went right into the eye and I almost subtracted the red hair and sparkles. I went right into the person for a moment and I felt we connected right there with that moment in our lives creating art. And it may have been just a flash second, but let's say I took 1,000 pictures that day. This is the one that the masses are getting.

"While I was shooting this, I was reminding myself to pay attention to what was happening in my mind so later, when it's time for the communion, I'll be able to bring it all out. And at this moment, all the stars lined up for us. You get drawn into that eye and you swirl around the sparkles and then you get taken right out of the picture with these string hairs on the right. And you get brought around the picture and you have all these blurry hairs, and then you start over again.

"This one is lava. It's something there that's beautiful, but it's not necessarily anything you want to dive deep into. It's all in the eye."
