Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has a new project that plays mostly acoustic music called Jason Newsted and the Chophouse Band. Check out fan-shot footage above of them playing "This Land is Your Land" last month in Walnut Creek, Calif.

They have a few more gigs scheduled for September. The first date is Sept. 2 in Crystal Bay, Nev. The other four shows are in California. The dates are below. Coming up on Aug. 5 and 6, Newsted will be playing benefit shows for Little Kids Rock at Mighty Fine Guitars in Lafayette, Calif. For details on those shows, go here.

When Newsted revealed his new project in a webcast, the name of the group was Would and Steal. It is unclear if Newsted changed the name or if this is a separate project, though like Would and Steal, Jason Newsted and the Chophouse Band is described as being a mostly acoustic project.

During the webcast (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), Newsted said, “I always wanna play music; I have to have it in my every day, and if I don’t, I’ll go mad — literally. Anybody that knows me knows that. And so now as I play this, I find myself being able to expose myself to more people."

He continues, "I’d say age four to 94 can listen to this music and enjoy it. How can’t you like Johnny Cash? How can’t you like ‘Will The Circle Be Unbroken?’ You have to like those songs, American music like that.”
