Filter, ‘The Trouble With Angels’ — New Album

Filter are gearing up for the release of their fifth studio album, 'The Trouble With Angels,' which is set for release via Rocket Science Ventures this August. Word is that the album returns to the band's more industrial roots, namely their 'Short Bus' and 'Title of Record' releases. It makes sense for vocalist-guitarist Richard Patrick to revisit this sound. He did, after all, get his start working alongside Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor.

"I've heard people say, 'Richard is mellowing with age.' And I was like, 'Really? Mellow?!' You know what? I've been looking for an excuse to tear people's heads off again," Patrick told Noisecreep. Richard, we couldn't love you any more for such a statement and we look forward to having our toppers ripped clean off our shoulders!

The album's lead single is 'The Inevitable Relapse,' the meaning of which Patrick revealed in a separate statement, where he said, "People think 'The Inevitable Relapse' is about addiction, consumption and obsession, but they're wrong. It's a love song."

Filter are also set to released a limited-edition seven-inch single exclusive to stores that make up the Record Store Day Coalition. The single will be available in stores on July 6 and will feature the album version of 'The Inevitable Relapse' and a Rob Patterson 666-remix as the B-side. Patterson, if you recall, played guitar with both Korn and Otep and is now playing alongside Patrick live. Bassist Phil Buckman and longtime Filter drummer Mika Fineo round out the live band.

Check out 'The Inevitable Relapse' -- it really does sound like classic Filter, and that's always a good thing. It boasts roaring, urgent riffs, a screaming sample and Patrick sounds as gnarly as he did in his early days.
