The pure emotional power of music was on full display this past week in Munich, as Disturbed got an up close look at how their words and music have helped a family through one of the most heartbreaking moments of their lives. During their set at the Zenith on April 25, the band stopped the show after guitarist Dan Donegan spotted a family in the crowd, holding up a sign, a photo and baby Metallica onesie.

As revealed via the band's social media, during the song "Hold On to Memories," Donegan got singer David Draiman's attention while visibly moved by what he saw and Draiman went into the crowd to investigate further. Draiman recalled the moving moment to follow:

After we performed Hold on to Memories, Dan Donegan pulled me to the side, barely able to contain his emotion, because a family in the front row was holding up a picture of a baby and a onesie, of a child we were assuming they had lost.
During the encore, we pulled them up on stage, and they told us about how they lost their baby, Dominik, about two years ago, and that songs like Hold on to Memories and A Reason to Fight helped them get through and come to terms with their unbearable loss.
Needless to say, we all got choked up together and it even kept going backstage in the dressing room afterwards.
Moments like these make the sacrifices all worth it, knowing that what we’ve created has brought peace to people who couldn’t find it elsewhere.
Tonight’s show is dedicated to Dominik’s memory.
We are...Disturbed.

Video of that moment has now surfaced, along with additional photos. In the clip, the father Michael did most of the talking. “Thank you for the songs. It has given us a reason to fight and hold onto the memories," he told Draiman. After joining the band onstage with his family, Michael held up the photo of his child that he shared with Draiman, now facing the entire audience. “Don’t remember us here. Remember our son who is in heaven,” he stated.

“I can’t even imagine what you have been through. I have a son of my own and I don’t know what I would do. And the fact that the music we’ve created has been able to bring you some kind of peace and understanding really makes everything we do as a band worthwhile,” responded Draiman, later adding, “Despite what you’ve been through, know this, sometimes the darkness can show you the light.” Watch the moment play out in the video below.

Disturbed recently released a powerful video for their current single "A Reason to Fight" bringing the conversation of mental health into the spotlight. "Every member of the band has been personally affected by this. That’s where 'A Reason to Fight' comes from," Draiman recently shared with Loudwire and Psychology Today. "And what we’re really inspired by is our own personal experiences with it — whether it’s ourselves as individuals battling addiction and depression, or whether it’s watching loved ones of ours battle with it. It’s something that’s very close to our hearts."

The band created a website dedicated to sharing the message of awareness of mental health struggles that also provides contact information for those needing additional counseling or someone to speak with.
