Metallica have released a statement dismissing and denouncing a claim about Metallica concert footage distribution rights made by a company called Writers Group Film Corp. and its subsidiary Front Row Networks, Inc. On Tuesday, Writers Group issued a press release announcing "the acquisition of several hours of unique Metallica 3D & 2D concert video footage for distribution." The news circulated around the web within a matter of hours.

Apparently, Metallica saw the announcement and were less than pleased about what they saw as a false claim made without the band's permission. The band's management immediately crafted their rebuttal.

"Metallica owns and controls its recorded performances and Creeping Death Music owns the vast majority of any music embodied in Metallica recordings," attorney Peter Paterno said in Metallica's rebuttal statement. "Pretty much any legitimate business would have contacted us to see how Metallica felt about it. Maybe these guys just forgot." Ouch!

"We are very happy to have bolstered the Writers Group Film Corp. stock price by using the Metallica name," said Marc Reiter of Q Prime, Metallica's management company. "We only wish they would have told us sooner so we could have bought some." Zing!

Writers Group and Front Row, you've been served.
