Woods of Ypres frontman David Gold has died at the age of 31.

The guitarist/vocalist was killed last night (Dec. 22) in a car accident near Barrie, ON, Canada. No further details of the incident are available at press time.

Earache Records released the following statement on their official website this morning:

"We've just heard that David Gold of Woods of Ypres passed away last night in an accident near Barrie, ON, Canada. From all of us at Earache, our deepest sympathies to your family, bandmates and friends. We are all devastated, such a terrible waste of talent. R.I.P. David."

Gold formed Woods of Ypres in 2000 in Ontario. After releasing four critically acclaimed albums on Gold's own Krankenhaus Records, the power trio signed with legendary underground metal label Earache Records in late 2010. The doom metal outfit's first album for the company, 'Woods 5: Grey Skies and Electric Light,' is scheduled to be released in 2012.
