We hate to brag. OK, maybe we don't hate it, but we definitely feel bad when we brag, especially when it's about a new album we wish we could share with you. That said, we've been blasting the new Devin Townsend Project disc 'Addicted,' and holy hell, is it awesome. Like 'Ocean Machine' and 'Terria' fused together. Especially the tracks 'Supercrush' and 'Numbered.' Seriously, folks ... this one's already made our albums of 2009 list, and if you head on over to Hevy Devy's MySpace page, at least you can hear a sampling of some of the album's material. The record isn't out until Nov. 17, but later on this week, we'll be bringing you bits from our interview with Devin, and man, did dude have a lot of good stuff to say. But more on that later. Right now, we've got all sorts of breaking news items ... and not-so-breaking news items, too. It's White Noise, keeping you in the metal know.

+ Must be a slow news week in St. Petersburg, Fla. The local news bastion is reporting that an octogenarian is attending a Metallica concert this weekend. Margaret Priebe, who is 85, claims to be a huge Metallica fan, and will attend the band's gig in Tampa with her son, Jim Priebe. She says Metallica helped her get through her fight with cancer. While receiving chemo treatments, Priebe would listen to the band, particularly their album with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, 'S&M.' "I always liked rock music," says Priebe. "I love drums, and I like the way they play. I like Metallica - there's nothing wrong with them. People think I'm weird. But I'm sorry, I like it loud."

+ Shannon Hamm, guitarist for Death, had a serious heart attack last month and needs your help. A complete arterial blockage led Hamm to have a near-fatal heart attack and surgery, to have a stent placed in his heart. Unfortunately, Hamm has no health insurance. Hamm is turning to his friends and family for help with his mounting medical costs. If you'd like to help him out, send an email to him for more information.

+ Lye By Mistake will be releasing its second album, 'Fea Jur,' on Oct. 13. Unfamiliar with the band? Well, check out a track from their new disc, 'Invincible Badass,' right now over at Lambgoat.com.

+ Belphegor's video for their track 'Der Geistertreiber' has been posted online, and its sinister. The clip was shot in a cabin over three debauched days. The song appears on the band's disc 'Walpurgis Rites -- Hexenwahn,' which drops Oct. 20.

+ Duff McKagan of Velvet Revolver, Jane's Addiction's Dave Navarro and Chris Chaney, Dave Kushner, and MC5's Wayne Kramer all took part in the Scott Ford Benefit last weekend at The Roxy in West Hollywood, Calif. Money raised during the event will help Camp Freddy bassist Scott Ford, who is suffering from an advanced bone loss medical condition resulting in severe blood infections.

+ Charred Walls of the Damned, a new band formed by Howard Stern's Richard Christy, will not be releasing its debut album in 2009, it turns out. The release has been pushed to early 2010.

+ Between the Buried and Me, Veil Of Maya and Animals As Leaders will be hitting the road together next month. The trek gets underway in Kettering, Ohio, on Nov. 7, and runs through Nov. 24 in Wilmington, N.C.
