The Dillinger Escape Plan Wrap Career With Two Returning Original Members
As the year comes to an end, so does The Dillinger Escape Plan, but the group left it all on the stage for their final show. The band played the last of three consecutive nights at New York's Terminal 5 on Friday (Dec. 29), delivering a 19-song set and welcoming back two of their former members.
The band has gained a reputation over the years for their high energy shows and they kicked things off on the right foot with "Proceed With Caution," the very first song off their 1997 self-titled debut EP. They followed with "Limerent Death," which had been a part of the encore in sets earlier in the week. And "Panasonic Youth," the band's first single from 2004's Miss Machine, followed.
The band took care of fans with "Happiness Is a Smile," "One of Us Is the Killer" and "Unretrofied" among others before welcoming their first special guest of the night -- original vocalist Dimitri Minakakis -- who sang on the Calculating Infinity bonus track "Sandbox Magician."
The group played two encores, with "Farewell, Mona Lisa" and "43% Burnt" making up the first encore, while original bassist Adam Doll returned to join the band and the string section Seven Suns on the title track from their final disc, Dissociation.
Fan-shot footage of the show opening can be seen above, while fan-shot video of the encores can be seen below along with the set list for the night.
The band capped their career 20 years after issuing their debut self-titled EP in 1997. Their final album, Dissociation, was released in 2016, with the group feeling that it offered a perfect thematic conclusion to their career. In addition to Minakakis and Doll, fellow former guitarist Brian Benoit rejoined the band for a couple of songs at one of the previous "farewell shows."
