Split Lips & Circle Pits: Whiplash, Voivod, Anvil
BORN AGAIN ON THE AIRWAVES: This past week, Whiplash's Tony Portaro had an exclusive interview with DJ Greg Ahrens on the "Street Patrol" show on 89.5 WSOU based in South Orange, N.J. During the radio show listeners heard two new tracks off of the forthcoming album 'Unborn Again,' which is slated for a July 15 release from Pulverised Records.
SMELL THE BACON: As this year's UK Download Festival carried the attention of music fans worldwide, the thrash realm was also represented. During the fest this past weekend, the UK based music website, Baconmusic, had the opportunity to speak with Quebec, Canada's Michel "Away" Langevin of Voivod. Their final album 'Infini' is scheduled to release in the states on June 23 on Relapse Records.
KEEPING THE BUZZ ALIVE: Without a doubt Anvil has generated much buzz this past year with their self-titled documentary. The buzz has paid off for the Canadian thrash underdogs, as it was announced this week that the band will be opening as support for the legendary AC/DC this coming August. This on top of additional dates in Massachusetts and New Jersey in late July. Lead vocalist Steve "Lips" Kudlow states, "All this stuff that's happening to us now could never have happened if we didn't play for more than thirty years," Lips added. "I got to tell you, man, it couldn't happen at a better time in our lives. It bought me a retirement fund, if nothing else."
