Soulfly Frontman Promises Good ‘Omen’ in May
In October, Soulfly frontman Max Cavalera told Noisecreep that the band was planning to enter the studio in November and record an album by the beginning of 2010. The plan seemed pretty ambitious. Soulfly had no complete new songs written and no new lyrics. Writing and recording a full album at a time when the recording industry typically goes into a month long hibernation sounded unlikely.
But if there's one thing we've learned over the years, it's that Cavalera's not a bulls---ter. As promised, the band tracked its seventh album, 'Omen,' at Edge of the Earth Studios in Los Angeles with co-producer Logan Mader (ex-Machine Head). The record, the follow-up to 2008's 'Conquer,' is scheduled for release May 4.
Like past Soulfly records, 'Omen' features various guest stars, including Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist Greg Puciato with a co-vocal on 'Rise of the Fallen' and Prong frontman Tommy Victor with a co-vocal on 'Lethal Injection.'
"I also recorded two B-sides with both of my sons playing drums," Cavalera said. "Igor plays on [a cover of] Excel's 'Your Life, My Life,' and Zyon plays on Sepultura's 'Refuse/Resist' cover."
