With Slipknot readying themselves for a weekend of festival performances -- Aftershock on Saturday and Knotfest on Sunday -- guitarist Jim Root will be down one of his guitars. While the band were performing onstage in Portland, Ore., someone swiped Root's guitar from their practice room.

Unfortunately, gear theft has become quite common these days. Often times musicians have their equipment stolen when playing smaller venues as they haul everything back outside and load up their van or trailer. This event proves even some of the world's biggest bands have to keep a watchful eye over everything. Root posted an Instagram photo of the instrument and had a message about the theft. It can be viewed below:

Root's long-time girlfriend, Christina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil, also took to Instagram to inform fans of what took place. Scabbia's post (below) also includes the serial number of the guitar, which can be crucial when trying to recover stolen equipment.

THIEF ALERT!!!!! Dear coilers, maggots, friends around the globe. Someone stole this guitar from the Slipknot rehearsal room while they were on stage tonight at the Memorial Coliseum Portland. It is a FENDER guitar, SATIN SILVER WITH A PATINA COPPER PICK GUARD, the same one that is in this picture. Serial number: US11278640 Please share share share this post as much as you can, keep an eye around the city and internet and help us find @stuperbee 's guitar and whoever stole it (or simply take it back) ! If you're a real fan I can understand you want to have something that belongs to your idol... But that's the wrong way to do it and it is depriving another person of something that might means memories and something more than an "item"! If whoever got this guitar is reading this PLEASE take it back or send me a private message! We can all do something stupid and taking it back is what can bring a lot of honor back to you. From zero to hero! Think about it and be a man. If you have infos send me a pm here or please tag #huntfor4 so it's easier to keep an eye on the posts on Instagram. Thank you all!!! #fender #slipknot #guitar #help A photo posted by Cristina Scabbia ✔️ (@missscabbia) on

Back in July of 2013, Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor had over $36,000 of equipment stolen, but fortunately recovered 98 percent of it. Hopefully Root is able to find himself in a similar situation and get his guitar back.

It has been a tumultuous week for Slipknot, as turntablist Sid Wilson injured his foot and will have to dial back his maniacal performances until the injury heals.

Knotfest is in its third installment, taking place this weekend (Oct. 23 and 24) in San Bernardino, Calif. The festival will feature a large variety of bands including such name acts as Judas Priest, Korn, Mastodon, Cannibal Corpse and Bring Me the Horizon just to name a few.
