For many years, the hard rock and metal genre was predominantly populated with white male musicians, but from the late '80s on there were more rockers breaking that color barrier. Sevendust frontman Lajon Witherspoon was one such artist who did so, and he spoke about finally meeting one of the musicians who helped break the barrier during an appearance on the 'Talk Is Jericho' podcast with Chris Jericho.

The vocalist says that he recently crossed paths with Living Colour during the recent ShipRocked cruise and he told Jericho what a special moment it was to meet frontman Corey Glover after all these years. He recalls seeing Glover at the side of the stage during their sold out acoustic set.

"It was an incredible evening," says Witherspoon. "But by the encore I look over to the side of the stage and there's Corey Glover standing there and he gives me a big ol' hug and of course I'm like, 'You're kidding me.' And I invited him out on the stage and tell my story about how he's inspired me and that it's sad that it's taken us this long to meet each other."

The first meeting with Glover didn't just include the cameo appearance. Witherspoon adds, "He hung out and he said a little speech and we hung out after the night and all those guys, they're just incredible brothers, all those guys. That's someone who inspires me. To see a cat like that, he's done it all."

Witherspoon marveled at seeing Living Colour for the first time all those years ago, watching Corey Glover in the "body glove" suit and enjoying seeing the band breaking barriers by playing hard rock and metal.

The Sevendust frontman concludes, "He's definitely a pioneer and it was awesome to be able to say that and show my gratitude, like, 'Oh wow, man, this is a really important time to me to let you know how much you mean and what you've done, you know. You definitely made the way.'"
