Wes Scantlin, the lead singer of hard rock act Puddle of Mudd, has been charged with felony cocaine possession. As Noisecreep previously reported, Scantlin was picked up for purchase of a controlled substance back in January of 2012 -- just weeks after being charged with $60,000 in back taxes.

When cops stopped Sanctlin in LA for a traffic violation they found pills and powder in the singer's vehicle. Now, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office is involved, investigating what the controlled substance actually was: Cocaine. Scantlin's charge has since been upgraded to a felony.

The singer is also charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance and driving without a license. If convicted, Scantlin could face up to 4 1/2 years behind bars.

He has already plead not guilty and will return to court next week.
