Puddle of Mudd Fans Should Jump the Fences at Shows — Not Really
While Puddle of Mudd singer Wes Scantlin is sourly sarcastic, you can't always tell if he is kidding or serious when he makes inflammatory statements. But he did reveal the secret to his personality, which you can find at the end of this little story.
The singer/guitarist reflected on the state of the music business and the economy today, telling Noisecreep, "You should definitely watch the way all these artists and musicians put their time in behind a microphone and bury their soul in records and if you have a massive heart, maybe buy it or come to the shows. Just come to the shows, man. It's too easy to push a button and get stuff instantaneously."
That's an accurate summation of the digitized world as we know it. But Scantlin offered cash-strapped fans an economical solution that could just be him being facetious. "The economy is down and it is awesome to have fans come to shows, even if they are broke, so I would say to fans, 'If you have no money, f--- it. Show up anyway and jump the gate," he said.
While security guards might not condone such behavior, fans should just tell 'em Wesley made 'em do it! "You tell all them I said jump the gate and rush the stage. F--- tickets, f--- it all, man. If everyone is allowed to steal, then jump fences like I used to do. Put your middle finger in the air. Even at shows that are not all ages, jump the gate. Every kid in the world who wants to rock 'n roll: jump the fence, run from security and if he catches you, punch him in the face. Blame me forever."
Scantlin also said that he was going to retire in five years and revealed he was pulling my leg, so let's assume his 'rush the gate' call to action was a joke, too. "99 percent of the time, everything I say is sarcastic," he said.
We're serious when we say that Puddle of Mudd are on tour for the foreseeable future.
