Kreator’s ‘Totalitarian Terror’ Music Video Recounts Experimental Medical Horrors of Nazi Germany
Heavy metal's dark lyricism often steps into the most sinister of realms, exploring the most horrific events to transpire in human history. Slayer's "Angel of Death" (in)famously depicted the horrors of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz and here, German thrash legends Kreator have cut a video from the same thematic cloth for "Totalitarian Terror."
The band has made their name of authoring songs focused on class warfare and oppression from the elite under strict and often brutal forms of government. With a track titled "Totalitarian Terror," selecting the theme of Holocaust architect Heinrich Himmler and his gruesome medical experiments was fitting.
The video opens with with text slides, the first of which reads, "The Ahnenerbe was an institute in Nazi Germany purposed to research the history of the Aryan race. The Ahnenerbe conducted experiments and launched expeditions in an attempt to prove that mythological Nordic populations had once ruled the world."
This is followed by another stating, "The name Ahnenerbe means 'inheritance from the ancestors.' The official mission of the Ahnenerbe was to find new evidence of racial heritage. However, due to Himmler's obsession it quickly became his own occult tool and started using pseudoscience," as Kreator provide some background information before diving into the gory video as innocent humans are brought to an underground lair for a variety of horrendous experiments, including surgery.
"Totalitarian Terror" is taken from the band's latest record, Gods of Violence, which is out now on Nuclear Blast and can be ordered here. Catch the thrashers on their headlining tour with Obituary, Midnight and Horrendous starting March 17. See the full list of stops at our 2017 Guide to Rock + Metal Tours.
