Korn Unveil New Song ‘Rotting in Vain’ at Chicago Open Air
Well hello Chicago! Korn took the stage at the inaugural Chicago Open Air over the weekend and had a surprise in store for the Windy City audience. The band debuted a new track called "Rotting in Vain," that you can check out in fan-shot video above (better visual) and below (better audio).
As you can hear, the track starts off heavy on the cymbals during the opening, transitions to pummeling bass and drums and Jonathan Davis brings back some of his scatting within the song as well. Though the track made its debut at Chicago Open Air, a full fledged studio version of the song is expected to arrive on July 22. That news comes courtesy of bassist Fieldy's son, who is featured in an Instagram post revealing the announcement as seen below.
Though an official release date or album title has yet to be revealed for the new Korn album, the band members have not been shy about talking about the material. Recently, guitarist Munky revealed that Slipknot's Corey Taylor would guest on a track and added a little more about what fans can expect in terms of the sound. “We have Corey singing on one track and it's going to be a fan favorite because he really lets loose. On a heaviness scale of one to 10 with 10 being the 1994 self-titled, this album is a definite nine," explained the guitarist.
His fellow guitarist, Brian "Head" Welch, also gave an interview where he revealed that he and Munky were driving the push for a heavier sound. “We really wanted to go into what Korn does guitar-wise," stated Head. "James, Ray [Luzier] and I started riffing back in June of last year. Then we’d go on tour, come back and spend a week or two just jamming out. We started getting ideas pretty quickly once we started going into bigger studios and everything. It just went in that direction of the heavier sound. It’s the most intense Korn music in a long time vocally [as well]."
With the release of a new single, information on the album's release should be coming shortly. Stay tuned and look for Korn on the road at these stops.
