Jay Weinberg has had his dad and his initial meeting with Slipknot on his mind of late. The drummer recently recreated a photo taken at their first meeting when his dad, E Street Band drummer and former Conan O'Brien band leader Max Weinberg, introduced a young Jay to the group for the first time. Now, in a new video, he reflects on telling his father he actually joined the band for the first time.

Weinberg recently took part in a fan Q&A for the Outside the 9 fan club (which can be seen below), and he relayed, "I don't know if he believed me, to be honest."

The drummer says after he auditioned for Slipknot, he wasn't allowed to let anyone know, including his father, but eventually he was able to share the info. "Once I did, he was very happy considering this is a band that he introduced to my life," says Jay. "I'm sure I would have crossed the path of Slipknot's music at some point, but he really made that initial connection between myself and the members of the band. So, for him to have done that for me and did me that solid of introducing me to these guys at nine or 10 years old, and then 13, 14 years later, I joined the band, he was overwhelmed and overjoyed, I'm sure."

He continues, "It's something we still talk about to this day when certain benchmarks are met, or certain interesting things are happening, like playing on late-night TV, where I grew up watching him work and stuff like that, and now we're on a late-night TV program. It's very interesting. So, yeah, when I first told him I was joining Slipknot, I think he flipped his shit."

These days, Weinberg can be found at the center of the chaos on Slipknot's stage, pounding away on drums during the Knotfest Roadshow. Check out the band's dates here.
