Down Video Exclusive: Phil Anselmo Talks About the New ‘Purple’ EP
This week, Down will finally be unleashing Down IV Part I - The Purple EP, their first slab of heavy metal greatness in five years. The 6-song EP is the first in a series of four EP's planned for release over the next year. Featuring Phil Anselmo (Pantera) on vocals, Pepper Keenan (Corrosion of Conformity) on lead guitars, Kirk Windstein (Crowbar) on guitar, Jimmy Bowery (Eyehategod) on drums and bassist Pat Brudners (Crowbar), Down specialize in the kind of Saint Vitus-kissed grooves and vocal hooks that get stuck inside your head long after it leaves your stereo.
"Down gives me the platform to be poetic and paint imagery with lyrics," says Anselmo. "That's the approach I took. They complement the music and create an ominous feeling. Ultimately, when people consume the words, it's always their interpretation that matters. I could be image-conscious though when I wrote. It's not so gut level or street. The darker shit is some of my favorite."
In this Noisecreep video exclusive, Anselmo invites us into his jam room to give us a little breakdown on Down IV Part I - The Purple EP.
