Courtney Love Would ‘Feel Weird’ About Not Starring in a Kurt Cobain Biopic
Courtney Love, never one to bury or hide her opinions, is not into a biopic about her late husband, Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain or their relationship. While the singer, who isn't known for playing nice when it comes to the legacy of her late husband –just ask Dave Grohl—she admits to being into the idea a few years back. But she has since changed her mind.
Turns out she'd be weirded out by someone other than her…playing her.
While Universal had a few actresses they thought would be great to play the First Lady of Grunge, like indie darling Michelle Williams, Love had designs on Anna Faris, who has become known for her comedic edge.
"There was talk of a biopic a few years back," Love told Huffington Post. "I think I changed my mind about it, but I did do a deal with Universal. Scarlett Johansson was into it; I was also into Michelle Williams. These were the people the studio offered to me. It wasn’t me choosing them."
She continued, "I kind of liked Anna Faris, which everyone said I was insane for, but I thought she kind of looked a little bit like me, and she was a little prettier. [That's] the whole point of Hollywood: I was offered to play Janis Joplin. I’m a little prettier than Janis Joplin so it's always like that. Whatever."
Love did not say that the project is totally dead in the water. While it might still happen, it may not garner her support. "I know that Universal wants to make the film but I don’t know that I want to do it until…," the singer, who was critically praised for her role in 'The People vs. Larry Flynt,' said. "I would feel weird having a film made about me and Kurt unless I was actually acting myself. It would be too weird."
Well, someone else playing her is sort of the point... it'd be a film about real people. We'd like to know what you think. Which actress could handle the part of Courtney Love? Tell us in the comments below.
