Black Sunshine

Black Sunshine, a new band featuring freestyle skier Matt Reardon and ex-Filter and Theory of a Deadman guitarist Charles Lee, will release their self-titled debut on April 13. A track from the disc, 'Once in My Life' is available for streaming on their MySpace page.

Combining darkness with light, the tune pairs punchy hard rock with yearning post-grunge, bearing some resemblance to the soaring songcraft of bands like Nickelback and Three Doors Down.

"'Once In My Life' is a song about living each day like it's your last and getting the most out of life," said Reardon, who sings on the album. "I had a few close calls and lost quite a few friends over the years, and it has helped through some rough times."

Black Sunshine is Reardon's first solid band since he dissolved Reardon, which released the album 'Free From Code' in 2003. The new group came together when Rob Zombie guitarist John5 introduced Lee, his ex-bandmate in Loser, to Reardon. Ex-Pollen bassist Christopher Serafini and drummer Matt 'Toast' Young, who has worked under Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum and Korn drummer Ray Luzier, joined soon after. Black Sunshine's debut, which features 11 propulsive songs, was produced by Bob Marlette (Shinedown, Seether, Filter).

The band will join Smile Empty Soul and Soil on tour starting March 25 in Hollywood, California. Dates run through May 25 in Santa Clara, Calif.
