Founding 3 Doors Down guitarist Matt Roberts has left the band.

In a statement on the group's official website today, Roberts cited health reasons for his split with the band, but gave no further details.

"3 Doors Down will always have a special place in my heart and it saddens me to take this time off," said the guitarist in his official statement. "But my health has to be my first priority."

"Matt is our brother and he will always be a part of this band and he will always be welcomed back with open arms," added 3 Doors Down lead singer Brad Arnold. With Roberts' blessing, the band will keep their current tour schedule which sees them performing dates across the United States on the Gang of Outlaws Tour with ZZ Top and country artist Gretchen Wilson.

Roberts co-founded 3 Doors Down along with Arnold and bassist Todd Harrell in 2006 in Escatawpa, Mississippi. The band has sold over 20 million copies of their five studio albums.

3 Doors Down have not named a replacement for Roberts as of press time.
