To be a Tool fan, you have to have a certain amount of patience. It comes with the territory. Sure the band usually rewards that patience with amazing music, but they're not exactly the swiftest of acts when it comes to turning around new albums. Just this week, frontman Maynard James Keenan admitted, "It's a long process" in an interview discussing the group's creative journey to recording their first new album in seven years.

Over the past year there have been somewhat conflicting stories about the progress of the band's next studio album. In a Loudwire interview back in July, drummer Danny Carey speculated that an early 2014 release from Tool was likely. But Keenan's new comments to Rolling Stone shed a little doubt on that timeline.

Keenan stated, "I don't write the music. They write the music. I wait for them to bring music to me. They tend to go back over and over stuff. It's a long process. For a person like me, it can be a very tedious process." The frontman went on to add, "In some ways, they are bigger perfectionists. But you can only help support their talent so long. They don't have to go through it 700 times. They can trust that first thought. But that's their process, so you gotta let them do it." When asked the big question about the release timeline, Keenan offered a non-commital, "I couldn't tell you."

Given Carey's previous suggestion and Keenan's new comments, we want to know when you think Tool will be releasing their next album. Is the early 2014 timeline still viable or do you think it will be much (or much much) longer? Vote in our Readers Poll below:
