Steven Banch, Jr. of industrial metal band Spyder Baby was sentenced Monday, Dec. 5 to 15 months probation, $1,425 in fines, and community service after failing to adequately bury a rotting cow carcass and several other decomposing animals. The musician, a former member of a band whose music is self-described as "unapologetically dark and edgy," was arraigned this summer for neglecting the dead cow that was allegedly decomposing on his farm, the Oakland Press reports.

The case drew attention of the media when Banch's neighbors companied of rotting carcasses on his Michigan property last March. While Banch will not face jail time for his neglect, he will be put behind bars if any other violations occur on his property while he is on probation. Banch described the sentence as "a victory for me, because it could've gone a completely different way."

"You have a special obligation to those animals," said Judge Kelley Kostin. You don't take responsibility. It's your responsibility to watch your pigs and cows. You can't blame others. By your lack of attention, you could have caused danger and harm to your community. It has to stop."

Banch has also been ordered to receive some mental health treatment, though to cover all of his bases, he might want to check out some basic home upkeep courses and maybe get his nose checked.
