Soulfly Unveil ‘Savages’ Album Artwork
Soulfly are inching closer to a new album release by unveiling the artwork for their forthcoming release, ‘Savages.’ As previously announced, the disc is due to drop on Oct. 4, marking their first offering under their new deal with Nuclear Blast Records.
The artwork, seen at left, was created by acclaimed rock artist Paul Stottier, who is best known for his work on Sacred Reich’s ‘Surf Nicaragua’ cover.
In related news, frontman Max Cavalera and a number of the special guests on the album have spoken about the band’s latest album. Cavalera says, “Recording ‘Savages’ was an amazing experience for me. I was so excited to work with Terry Date, whom I consider to be one of the best producers of all time. He has done some great records and we have been in contact for a while since he mixed three Soulfly albums in the past.”
Cavalera also had high praise for his collaborators, which include two people who share his last name. Bassist Igor Cavalera, who also plays with Lody Kong, says, “I was super pumped when I got the call to add vocals to ‘Bloodshed.’ It’s badass that Nuclear Blast chose it as the first single.”
Meanwhile, Max’s son Zyon also lent some of his skills to the album. Cavalera says of the musical union with his offspring, “Before recording the album I first worked closely at home with him in pre-production, and it was great to spend weeks on the songs with Zyon, shaping the sound of the record. Zyon did a great job and he hits really hard just like his uncle Igor — it was amazing recording with my son. A whole record! A dream come true for a father whose life is dedicated to metal. ‘Savages’ is a celebration of all that.”
The disc also features contributions from former Static-X bassist Tony Campos, Clutch‘s Neil Fallon, Napalm Death’s Mitch Harris and I Declare War’s Jamie Hanks. Pre-orders for the ‘Savages’ album are currently underway at this location.
