They cut their hair. They shifted from the lightning-fast metal of their youth in favor of a more hard rock sound. These are all the well-documented paradigm shifts that Metallica have undergone throughout their career.

James Hetfield, father of three, admitted to Australian media that the band has made a concerted effort to keep live shows as family-friendly as possible. In fact, Metallica axed profanity-riddled tunes like their cover of Anti-Nowhere League's 'So What' from the set list so as not to offend.

Hetfield's kids are all under the age of 13, so he's been extra careful about the language he uses and has tried to curb the cursing. He also talked about the variety of fans in the Metallica audience, and how more young kids are showing up. Most of the dudes in Metallica are dads, so it's admirable that they are trying to set a good example for their young'ins.
