A former Port Authority New York police officer has pleaded guilty to fraud after it was discovered that he was rocking onstage as the frontman of a metal band called Cousin Sleaze while collecting disability payments from the police department.

According to the New York Daily News, Christopher Inserra entered a guilty plea in federal court in Brooklyn on Tuesday (April 22), one day after he resigned from the force.

Reports state that Inserra fraudulently collected more than $30,000 in disability payments over a nearly two-year-period due to a supposed arm injury he suffered while on duty at the World Trade Center in June 2010. Inserra had claimed he hurt his arm taking an injured Port Authority employee to a medical facility. After an initial evaluation, Inserra was given time off with full pay and he filed claims with an insurance company that led to the $30,486 disbursement.

However, the seriousness of his injury was called into question when photos of a performance of Inserra fronting metal band Cousin Sleaze during a 2011 set showed him "repeatedly moving his arms in a punching motion" and "violently flailing his arm in an up-and-down motion," according to the Associated Press. Though very metal and great for a show, the actions turned out not to be great for his continued time off and medical pay.

In September 2011, Inserra told doctors he was still in intense pain, but his band hit the road for the "Miles of Mayhem" tour and more video footage surfaced of him pumping his fists and thrashing around onstage.

Inserra returned to work in March 2012 and held his position until earlier this week when he resigned and entered the guilty plea. He faces up to 14 months in prison and must pay back the insurance reimbursements. Inserra will be sentenced on Aug. 5. You can watch Cousin Sleaze's video for 'Still Screaming' below:
