It's been a quiet year for Lacuna Coil, but the veteran rockers are about to spring back into action by recording their next studio album. Though an official release date is not set as of yet, the group is tentatively eyeing a 2014 street date.

The band is working closely with producer Jay Baumgardner in their Italy-based studios and they're attempting to complete the disc before their late fall touring begins.

Frontwoman Cristina Scabbia says, "I am so excited to work on new stuff ... I am sure a lot of people will be mesmerized by the cinematic vibe of the new album that's underway. I'm very happy to have the chance to work with Jay. Not only is he a pro in what he does, but I am just loving the fact we are going to experiment with new sounds and are getting a different point of view about our art. We're swamped with the music already ... Lacuna Coil is back baby!!!"

Co-vocalist Andrea Ferro echoes Scabbia's excitement about working with Baumgardner, adding, "We met Jay a few years ago in L.A. and had a really positive feeling about him, as he has produced and mixed some of my favorite records and some very relevant rock/metal albums. We have decided to work with him, because he has the ability to work together with the band towards a common vision without driving the band away from their sound. In the studio there is the right energy that allows common people to achieve uncommon results!" That definitely sounds promising for Lacuna Coil fans.

The group has given themselves a deadline to complete the record as they want to have the recording process finished before starting on the 'Tragic Illusion' tour in Europe. The trek launches Oct. 30 and runs through Nov. 13. In addition, fans can catch Lacuna Coil early in the new year as they'll be taking part in the annual Shiprocked Cruise, which sets sail from Miami on Jan. 26, headed for the Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas. The cruise returns to dock on Jan. 30 and features performances by Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach, Three Days Grace, Device, Sevendust, In This Moment, Butcher Babies and more.
