GWAR to Unleash ‘Battle Maximus’ Album This Fall

GWAR Battle Maximus
Metal Blade

The Scumdogs of the Universe — that would be GWAR — will release their new album ‘Battle Maximus’ on Sept. 17 via Metal Blade. It’s not just another slab of human-hating war metal from these Antarctic rock deities. It’s actually the first album since the death of longtime guitarist Flattus Maximus, who is immortalized in the title.

‘Battle Maximus’ follows 2011’s ‘Bloody Pit of Horror.’ You can check out the track listing below and listen to new song ‘Madness at the Core of Time’ as well.

“This album is both a tribute to Flattus and a telling of the next chapter in the story of GWAR,” said frontbeast Oderus Urungus. “The combo of the brand new album and show should satisfy even the most hardcore Flattus devotee with the fact that GWAR’s slay-skills are as supreme as ever, and the band stands poised to embark on our most earth-shattering world tour yet. We have mourned, we have honored, and now it’s time to f—ing DEVASTATE in the name of Flattus and the supreme entity that is GWAR.”

The album was recorded at the Slave Pit Studios, which Flattus had assisted in designing, so his influence is certainly felt from beyond.

The band also welcomes new guitarist Pustulus Maximus. “It is a highlight of my corpse-littered life to join my Scumdog brothers and continue the legendary legacy of the Maximus clan,” said the new GWAR-tarist. “I am not so happy that Oderus vandalized my space-ship, effectively marooning me on Earth, but f— it … it’s time to ROCK!”

Amen to that. GWAR continue to rock and Flattus would want it that way.
