Flashback: Metallica’s James Hetfield Is Ready to Rock, But His Guitar Isn’t [Watch]

While we all have these silly ideas in our heads that some bands are at an inhuman level, we gently float back down to Earth when little guffaws like this happen. In this video uploaded in 2011, James Hetfield exclaims while playing Rock in Rio, "Rio, do you feel what I feel!?" He then goes on to tear into the band's hit 'Fade to Black,' but something just isn't right.

Mr. Hetfield forgot to turn on the distortion and what comes out of his guitar is the wimpiest lone guitar intro ever caught at a metal concert. Realizing the problem, he quickly fixes it and the song sounds like a Metallica tune again. After the song, he plays around with the clean tone laughing about the incident.
