The Deftones are holding benefit shows at the Avalon in Los Angeles to help raise money for the rising medical costs for bassist Chi Cheng, who remains languishing in a coma after a car accident last year. Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist Greg Puciato stepped on stage with the 'Tones at last night's show to perform 'Passenger,' a brooding tune from 2000's epic 'The White Pony.'

The studio version of the song features Tool/A Perfect Circle/Puscifer frontman Maynard James Keenan, but Puciato was happy to put his own stamp on the song and most importantly, to be a part of the cause for a fellow human.

"Coming out and doing 'Passenger' with the Deftones was exciting and great in the moment," Puciato told Noisecreep. "It was truly a tremendous vibe on stage and in the audience, but the whole reason I and everyone else was even there was bittersweet in hindsight. The night, and again tonight, are benefit shows to raise money for Chi Cheng, the Deftones' bassist who fell into a coma following a terrible car accident last year. If you aren't in the L.A. area and couldn't/can't make it to a show, you can still go to www.oneloveforchi.com, to make a donation, even if small, to help out the family of this wonderful person, a person who is a son, a husband, and a father, as they struggle to pay his at-home care costs.

"On a larger scale, if you don't choose this charity, stop your day for a second and remember that it is our voluntary charity, our willful acts of kindness, that accomplish the most in taking care of one another. See some of you tonight." We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

And in other Dillinger news, 'Option Paralysis' is due in March. The rest of the Dillingers are in and around the New York City area, rehearsing for their upcoming tour with Thursday.
