Black Sabbath, Suicidal Tendencies Both Use the Same Title for Upcoming Albums + More News

We all know that 13 is a lucky number for many people and that numerology often factors into hard rock albums, so it’s no shock that both Black Sabbath and Suicidal Tendencies would name their upcoming, 2013-released albums 13. Sabbath’s new album 13 is their nineteenth overall, while ST are releasing their first album in 13 years. Both acts, legends in the metal scene in very different ways, shared new information about their records.

You can watch footage of Black Sabbath in the studio, recording 13 with Rick Rubin. It was directed by Jack Osbourne. The clip is Rubin-focused, and he says, “My goal is to make something really great, that I could listen to forever. That’s the whole heart of it. The idea that we’re making an album that can sit alongside the best Black Sabbath albums is exciting. We’ve worn out the old ones. The idea that there is something new to listen to and that scratches that itch is exciting.”

The itch will be scratched on June 11 when the album drops.

Those hardcore/punk rock legends Suicidal Tendencies are releasing 13, their first new album in 13 years, on March 26.

The Dillinger Escape Plan have dropped the first track from One of Us Is the Killer. “Prancer” is available on iTunes.

“We’ve been itching to get some of this new music in front of people and it’s finally all coming together,” said guitarist and band co-founder Ben Weinman. “We’ve been working extremely hard and trapped in our own headspace for months. It’s absolutely exhilarating to finally share the fruits of our labor with our friends and supporters out there.

Norma Jean are done tracking their new album, due out in June via Razor & Tie.

Vocalist Cory Brandan commented on the process and offered a hint about what we can expect, saying, “We had a lot of fun writing this record. We moved our space to a secluded area and wrote off and on for about two years. We really pushed ourselves to do something really different while expanding on what we’ve done in the past. We also slapped some old school classic Norma Jean nastiness on it.

“We really struggled between wanting to have the fastest songs we’ve ever written to having the most groove driven songs, so the record is about half and half. We originally thought we would have been in and out of the studio by February 2012. We set the bar really high and once that time came around we discovered that the record wasn’t ready. We felt it was best to push it back and make sure we didn’t put out something that we were going to be less satisfied with. We experimented with strings, piano, organ, percussion and tons of live tracks that all will be present on this record.”
