There's not much better for hard rock and metal fans than catching live music ... except perhaps if the shows were free. Shoe magnate Converse will make sure that happens this summer when they launch the Converse Represent free concert series in San Francisco. Some of the bigger rock performers taking part are Mastodon, Quicksand, High on Fire, Suicidal Tendencies and Rocket From the Crypt.

The week of free shows runs June 23-27 at Slim's in San Francisco and will feature an eclectic lineup of both alternative, indie, dance and hip-hop acts as well as hard rock and metal bands. The fun begins June 23 with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, DIIV, Metz, Tamaryn and The She's all performing. Deltron 3030, Juicy J, Blackalicious, Angel Haze and a still-to-be named special guest are part of the June 24 bill. Hot Chip, Tycho, Blackbird Blackbird and Social Studies get things moving on June 25.

The final two nights offer more of a harder edge. The June 26 show has Mastdon playing with Quicksand, High on Fire, Saviours and Hot Lunch. The following night (June 27), Suicidal Tendencies get to close things out with support from Rocket From the Crypt, Ceremony and a special guest.

The performances lead up to the unveiling of a new Converse retail store in San Francisco on June 28. Fans can currently register to win free tickets to any of the five shows by visiting the Converse Represent Tumblr page.
