White Noise: News on Nine Inch Nails, Aosoth, Ozzy Osbourne, Angel, Korn and More

You know what's awesome? Spending the entire Labor Day weekend in bed, sick as a dog, and then waking up Tuesday morning, feeling fine. Just in time for work. Yep, that's right. This writer's Labor Day weekend was the pits. Coughing, wheezing, sneezing, getting loopy on Nyquil ... all bloody weekend, folks. What a waste. We at least hope all of you had an incredible weekend, filled with sun, barbecues, and laughs, because our weekend included none of those. Oh well. It's back to work, and back to the business of reporting on all the latest heavy metal headlines. And just remember, metalheads...they say you can't wear white after Labor Day. Lucky for us, we only own black clothing. It's White Noise, and it's a good one.

+ Firewind guitarist Gus G. will be playing his second concert with Ozzy Osbourne during the second annual Sunset Strip Music Festival, set for Sept. 10 to Sept. 12. The three-day event kicks off with a tribute to Osbourne at the House of Blues, and wraps with Ozzy's performance, which goes down Sept. 12. The appearance follows Ozzy's Aug. 22 performance at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif., during this year's BlizzCon. It was one of the first times in years Osbourne performed without Zakk Wylde, his longtime guitarist. Some are suggesting that Gus G. has been tapped as Wylde's replacement, but an official announcement to that effect has not yet been made.

+ Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor has rescheduled the final dates for the band's farewell tour. Reznor was forced to cancel two shows after falling sick last week. The band will play the Henry Fonda date tonight, and the Wiltern gig is rescheduled for Sept.10. Reports suggest Reznor has a cold and clogged an ear during a flight, preventing him from hearing himself on stage.

+ The Agonist's Alissa White-Gluz has recorded a guest spot for the forthcoming album from the recently-reunited Slaves on Dope.

+ Korn frontman Jonathan Davis says the new record is "starting to take on a life of its own. I wanted it to start out as a concept album but now there are other things coming up that I want to talk about. I don't know necessarily if the concept's going to stick or not. We've been working with [producer] Ross Robinson. It's weird. I've been humming my lyrics along with the band as they play. I haven't done that in forever. We'd usually do our parts separately, and then I'd do my thing over the music after the song was done. We've been writing altogether as a band this time. I've been freestyling all of these lyrics that aren't necessarily about the five things I initially came up with for the album's concept."

+ Aosoth have signed with Agonia Records. The band is working on its next LP, called 'Ashes of Angels,' for a tentative January 2010 release; the set will boast nine original cuts and a cover of an Antaeus song.

+ According to Pollstar, Rock Gone Wild's cancellation has led to the filing of some lawsuits. Promoter Donnie Frizzell and Rock Gone Wild venue officials have filed lawsuits against each over the nixed event, which had been set for Aug. 20 to Aug. 23. Frizzell is suing Diamond Jo Casino of Northwood and its affiliates on various claims, including "breach of contract, estoppel by detrimental reliance, fraudulent misrepresentation and fraudulent concealment."

+ Mantic Ritual has parted with singer/guitarist Dan Wetmore. According to Wetmore, he has decided he can no longer continue with the band, and will instead pursue other endeavors. Dave Watson will be filling in with the band on their upcoming tour alongside Marduk.

+ Death Breath is working on its next album, and the group says the process is going "very well with a healthy touch of heavy metal. We now have half the songs for the album recorded."

+ Liferuiner were attacked in Dayton, Ohio, over the weekend. During the band's set, some kids showed up and "started dancing like assholes, throwing chairs, being overly disrespectful, which is something none of us are down with, so we already anticipated there being a problem later on." After the set, the band were confronted by a bunch of kids, and "all hell broke loose. We were completely outnumbered so while trying to square up with one kid at a time, we had to worry about multiple kids 'jumping' us from behind. Our guitar player Dave was knocked to the ground and kicked in the head, so he's got a few small cuts and some bruising around his left eye. Our tour manager Billy got hit in the head with a Mag-Lite and had to get six stitches, which is why our band had to go to the hospital that night."

+ Slayer's Kerry King doesn't like Megadeth's Dave Mustaine. He tells Guitar World that he doesn't "have any respect for Dave. As far as playing goes, I can't take anything away from him. He's awesome. But I know things. That's not like, 'Ooh, I know things.' I just know he's a hypocrite, and I have no respect for that kind of person. But when I see him, I'll say, 'What's up, Dave?' If he's not an a--hole to me, I won't be one to him."

+ A bass guitar autographed by members of Rush, the Deftones and Green Day will be auctioned off to raise money for Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, who remains in a hospital 10 months after his involvement in a serious car crash.

+ Mickie Jones, Angel's original bassist and one of the band's founding members, died on Sept. 5 in San Dimas, Calif. following a long battle with liver cancer.

+ Hatebreed will be hitting the road in November as part of the Decimation Of The Nation 2 Tour with Cannibal Corpse, Unearth, Hate Eternal, Thy Will Be Done and Born Of Osiris. The trek gets underway Nov. 13 in Charlotte, N.C., according to the PRP.
