Vision of Disorder: Headline Show in Brooklyn Changed to Hurricane Sandy Benefit for Red Cross

Vision of Disorder's headline show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, set for Nov. 24, has become a Red Cross benefit show to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy, which battered the East Coast two weeks ago. The storm is of particular significance to VOD since it ravaged the band's native Long Island and beyond.

The gig is now called 'Picking up Change: Hardcore for Hurricane Relief.' That name has dual meaning, as it is also a nod to the hardcore dance move of picking up change, one that was popular in moshpits in the late '90s.

The band and support acts will make donations to the Red Cross to help suffering and displaced people in the region, as cleanup and recovery efforts are expected to take months and cost millions, if not more.

"Our hearts go out to those severely affected by this tragic incident," the band said. "Being from Long Island, Hurricane Sandy has (quite literally) hit home for us. The music scene in Long Island, the New York metro area and New Jersey have been so supportive to VOD over the years that we felt donating the proceeds from the Brooklyn show was a no-brainer. We are proud to announce that the opening acts (Primitive Weapons, Yuppicide, Swarm of Arrows) have also agreed to donate their proceeds. We hope that this small gesture can add to the ongoing efforts and help rebuild these traumatized areas. We look forward to seeing you all on November 24 to support this cause."

VOD vocalist Tim Williams told Noisecreep, "Being a Long-Island-native-turned-NYC-transplant, this hurricane has really affected so many people we know. Friends, families, coworkers and neighbors have all been affected in one way or another. It has been a difficult time for the tri-state area. There are some areas that are on a Katrina level of disaster.

"We are very happy to pitch in and help out in any way we can. We were fortunate to have this show already booked. We hear and see a lot of people doing their part to help out for the greater good. We are very proud, humbled and honored to take part in such great effort of people helping other people. A special thanks to all the bands on the bill who offered their donations as well. We really hope this will bring some relief to the people who need it the most."

Guitarist Mike Kennedy concurred, explaining, "We felt converting our upcoming headliner on Nov. 24 @ WMH to a benefit -aptly dubbed 'Picking Up Change: Hardcore for Hurricane Relief'- was paramount, considering the events that have transpired over the past two weeks. It is heartbreaking to see so many suffer in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

"We all grew up on Long Island and personally know someone completely devastated and many who were severely affected by Sandy. For us to be in this position to help through our music and fanbase, it just seemed natural and uplifting to organize this event. This will also be an opportunity for the attendees (many of which were probably personally affected) to connect with a great cause and hopefully have a good time in the wake of such a catastrophe. We hope to see all there that can make it!"

You can assist if you plan to attend the show by bringing supplies, such as canned/non-perishable food, batteries, toilet paper, for area shelters and food banks, as donation bins will be posted outside of the venue. Supplies to aid pets and animals displaced by the storm are also acceptable and will be donated to Last Resort Animal Rescue in New Jersey.
