White Noise: News on Mastodon, Devildriver, Snot, Protest The Hero and More
TGIFF, right? Man, it was a busy week for us here at Noisecreep, and now, it’s time to let our headbangin’ hair down for the long weekend. We ended the week on a high note, though. The dudes from Bury Your Dead stopped by our offices yesterday, and they talked to us about their new album and that van accident they all barely walked away from last fall. Some pretty crazy stuff, and we’ll be bringing you part of that interview next week. Until then, we hope you all have an amazing weekend, too, no matter what you do.
+ Well, that didn’t last long. According to Snot guitarist Mikey Doling, the reformed unit has lost its singer, Tommy Vext, and guitarist Sonny Mayo. In a statement issued to Blabbermouth, the band says “Vext has not worked out. Tommy’s a great guy and he is very talented, but after writing for the last five months, there has been a lot of strain on relationships within the band, resulting in the departure of Sonny Mayo and Vext.”
+ The title track from Devildriver‘s forthcoming album, “Pray For Villains,” is available for free download right here. The album is slated for release July 14.
+ Now, here’s something we never expected. It seems Jackson Rathbone, one of the stars from the “Twilight” films, has reportedly signed on to play Varg Vikernes, Burzum‘s former frontman, who sits behind bars in a Norwegian prison for the August 1993 murder of Mayhem guitarist Oystein Aarseth in the upcoming flick “Lords Of Chaos.” The film is based on the book of the same name, and there’s no word yet when the movie will hit theatres.
+ Dude! Job For A Cowboy have released the album art for their forthcoming album, “Ruination,” which hits stores on July 7. Check it out here… its pretty rad. According to frontman Jonny Davy, “the ideas involved with the new album branch off from our last record, ‘Genesis,’ but are more politically based.”
+ Protest The Hero guitarist Tim Millar has been letting his whiskers for three years now, and now, his beard’s good and ready for the 2009 World Beard and Moustache Championships, which will be held May 23 in Anchorage, Alaska. Millar was recently ranked 19th in Metal Hammer’s “Best Beards in Metal” feature, and plans to shed the beard following the contest.
+ Metal Injection caught up with Mastodon‘s Troy Sanders and Brann Dailor, to discuss the rumors of a film based on the band’s latest album, “Crack The Skye” movie. “The first thought that we had for it was just the music and a movie to go along with it,” Dailor says. “That’s what the treatment is for. But we talked to some directors and they’re kind of into possibly introducing some dialogue so it’s a little more cohesive and makes more sense and making it like ‘The Wall’ or something like that. But, it’s kind of at a stand-still right now. We don’t know if it’s going to happen, but we want it to happen. I guess we’ll see.”
+ Chimaira will be teaming up with Winds Of Plague, Born Of Osiris, and The World We Knew this July for a quick run of dates that begin July 22 in Columbus, Ohio, and run through July 29 in Poughkeepsie, New York.
