When you think horror metal, you think gross-out gore, with lyrics referencing the slicing of innards. Germany's Vision Bleak, however, are much more cerebral in their approach to horror metal, especially on their latest album, 'Set Sail to Mystery.' Vision Beak do horror a little differently.

"Well the sort of horror we are inspired by and that we try to evoke with our music is more of a subtle and sublime kind," vocalist/guitarist/bassist Ulf Theodor Schwadorf told Noisecreep. "We love the psychological depth of horror stories and weird fiction by authors such as Poe, Lovecraft, Blackwood, C.A. Smith, Robert Bloch and Nathaniel Hawthorne and combine this with a big influence from British romantic poetry by the likes of Byron, Shelley or Keats." While those aren't typical metal influences, they make complete and total sense in the metal sphere.

Vision Bleak, who deem their music as "dark, heavy and atmospheric" and their lyrics as "wicked and sinister -- the abyss within the soul of each of us," will spend 2010 "promoting this album as good as possible. Nothing more," Schwadorf said. "We already played a European tour, which was quite a success. Now summertime is festival time and autumn will see another tour and single gigs here and there. No new material will be written this year. We will focus on our next album in 2011."
