Van Halen Set to Play Tiny New York City Club

If the rumors are true, and Van Halen kicks of its 2012 reunion tour with a special show this Thursday (Jan. 5) at Cafe Wha? in New York City, David Lee Roth had better watch it with the high kicks. The tiny venue only holds 250 people, and someone might lose an eye.

As Rolling Stone reports, journalists across the city have been invited to the intimate gig, which would be the group’s first performance with Roth since 2008.

While the motormouth frontman is used to playing much larger rooms, he’s no stranger to Cafe Wha? His uncle Manny Roth once owned and operated the legendary nightspot, which has played host to such artists as Bob Dylan, Richard Pryor and Jimi Hendrix.

It’s believed the group will play a 45-minute set, and while neither Diamond Dave nor the Van Halen boys — Eddie, Alex and now young Wolfgang — have confirmed anything, they recently put up a billboard in Times Square. What’s more, a source quoted on the fan site VHLinks says management has been “busy booking rehearsal space and hotel rooms for the band and their crew for [this] week in NYC.”

Hopefully, they’ve got someone on the lookout for brown M&Ms.
