When we think of death personified, the Grim Reaper, dressed in black and wielding a harvester's scythe, is often the first thing that comes to mind. Polish death metal band Ulcer chose this classic imagery for the cover art for their new full-length 'Grant Us Death.' "What is more well-chosen than a sinister figure with a scythe striking our beautiful planet, when we hear a prayer-like supplication [like] 'Grant Us Death?'" Ulcer's Sonnelion told Noisecreep. "I know it's totally un-original, but I wanted the artwork to be just as traditional as the music the album contains."

After settling on an album title, Sonnelion and the band looked for an artist skilled at hand-drawing. The group wanted someone who knew what death metal is all about. "Bartlomiej Kurzok surely is that person," Sonnelion said. "He's a very talented guy, although he stays in the shadow, which is very careless of him, because he's got a great potential and it would be a pity to waste it."

"I shared my idea with him and he materialized it easily," Sonnelion continued. "I wanted a simple but well-drawn [piece of] artwork referring to the album title, and his execution was a bang on. That's how I imagined it to be, and that's how it is."

'Grant Us Death' is Ulcer's second album. It will be released by Pulverised Records.
