The wait for new Tool music continues, but given the band's attention to detail that's not necessarily too much of a surprise. While the group has been more visible in terms of working on new music, the status of the long-in-the-works album remains a bit of a mystery.

A few weeks ago, vocalist Maynard James Keenan told Rolling Stone, "I write lyrics and melodies to music. If I don't have music, I can't." In a new interview, the music mag points out that in a 2014 chat, drummer Danny Carey suggested that the band had "gotten through the toughest part of writing," while Adam Jones stated they had one song that was "pretty much done" with "lots of changes" and "really heavy elements."

Keenan's response to that query? "Do I seem like a lazy person? That's all I can really say." When pressed to expand, he added, " They're working hard in their own way; I'm working hard in my own way, and I've got nothin' for ya." So Tool fans, remain in the holding pattern.

The singer will reunite with Tool for a one-off performance at the Monster Mash festival in Phoenix on Oct. 31. A day later he'll front Puscifer at the same festival, kicking off the band's fall tour. For all of Puscifer's dates, click here.
